This is a quote from the movie, "The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus":
Old Lady: "... James Dean, Princess Di... All those people... They're all dead.
Tony: "Yes... But immortal nevertheless. They won't get old or fat. They won't get sick or feeble. They are beyond fear... Because they are forever young. They are gods. And you can join them."
(Later) Tony: "Nothing is permanent. Not even death."
I was watching the Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus the other day and I realised that there are so many hidden messages in the movie. Maybe I'm looking into it too much but it felt as though there were little subliminal messages in there especially about death.
Heath Ledger died just before the movie finished shooting and so Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell had to come in and fill in for him. There was a lot of criticism on the movie especially the whole message of death in. On a lot of the websites, people have been commenting that the movie was a prediction of Heath Ledger's death. Might be true, might not be true. We'll leave that to the conspiracy theorists.
That quote actually got me thinking about the death of all the young stars. The 27 Club. The members of the 27 Club all died at the age of 27 yet they are still remembered today and people still love them. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin Jim Morrison, Kurt Corbain and most recently, Amy Winehouse are all considered legends and, as crazy as it may sound, they are "gods". They all died at the height of their careers and they all had some sort of personal problem that was made publlic and they all died an untimely death. Heath Ledger died at 28 but he might as well be a member of the 27 Club. He was brilliant at what he did and he also died at the prime of his career.
It's quite sad that these stars had such sad lives that they let their addictions swallow them up and could not live through the hardships. It's sad that they felt that they were beyond help and "chose" to just give up rather than fight and get through it with friends and family.
Nevertheless, they will never be forgotten. Even the next generations will know about them and so on and so forth. They will be remembered for years to come. They are immortal in a sense and they will remain forever young...
